Semana Santa in Jerez: A Photo Journey Through Faith, Tradition, and Passion
There’s something truly magical about being in Spain during Semana Santa (Holy Week), but experiencing it in Jerez de la Frontera takes it to another level. This city is known for its sherry, flamenco, and Andalusian horses, but every year, it transforms, and devotion, art, and history merge, leaving even the most seasoned traveller spellbound.
I was in Jerez to visit my mother and brothers, who live there. I reside in Saudi Arabia, and the contrast between the two countries’ cultures, religions, and traditions is vast. Stepping into the vibrant atmosphere of Semana Santa reminded me of what Jerez is really all about: a city steeped in centuries-old customs and deep-rooted faith.
The Streets Become a Living Theatre
I could feel the buzz in the air from the moment I arrived. The scent of incense drifted through the winding streets, and the rhythmic sound of drums and trumpets echoed in the distance. It wasn’t long before I was surrounded by a sea of people waiting in anticipation.
